(by John E. Hoover) EL PASO, Texas — Oklahoma’s happy new year dimmed just a bit on Thursday when news broke that junior college quarterback Cameron Newton committed to Auburn.

According to the Birmingham News, Newton — the No. 1-ranked juco player in the nation, according to Rivals.com — will reportedly enroll in January and plans to compete for the starting job in spring practice.
