(by John Shinn) GLENDALE, Ariz. — The 800-pound gorilla Oklahoma has carried for eight years finally jumped off its back Saturday night at the Fiesta Bowl.

Quarterback Landry Jones, who was named the game’s MVP, threw for a program bowl game record 429 yards and three touchdowns in the Sooners’ 48-20 victory over Connecticut at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Sunday, 02 January 2011 12:44

(by Clay Horning) GLENDALE, Ariz. — It was all there. The domination, the stratospheric statistics, the brilliance of Ryan Broyles, the resurgence of Landry Jones, the sticktoitiveness of a defense that came on strong at the end of the season and did not allow an offensive touchdown Saturday night.

Lewis walked off the field after the play, but immediately began talking to members of the Sooners’ medical staff....read more from The Norman Transcript

Saturday, 01 January 2011 16:06

(by John Shinn) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The questions have been coming for several years. They are all phrased a little differently but have the same intended bull’s-eye: When will Oklahoma get the BCS monkey off its back?

It’s an issue — three losses in BCS national championship games and two losses in the Fiesta Bowl since the end of the 2003 season — the current Sooners didn’t create. It is something they inherited.

But it’s an issue they want to resolve....read more from The Norman Transcript

Friday, 31 December 2010 16:31

(by David Ubben) 1. Do not turn the ball over more than twice. There's no underestimating this for the Sooners since they are playing as heavy favorites. Even if Huskies running backJordan Todman runs wild on them for 200-plus yards, Oklahoma has the offense that can outscore Connecticut and score 50 points to win if necessary....read more from the ESPN Big 12 Blog

Sooner Spotlight: How They Got to Arizona - No. 1: Down but Not Out PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 30 December 2010 21:47

(by Jono Greco) What better way to end this list than to talk about the last game the Sooners played in and won: the Big 12 Championship game.

Obviously they wouldn’t be in the Fiesta Bowl if they did not win the conference title, but the manner in which they won the game was far from the usual formal they used in all of their other wins. Spotting the Cornhuskers 17 points was definitely not head coach Bob Stoops’ plan, especially at a neutral site field where about 65 percent of the fans rooted for Nebraska....read more from At The Yard
