(by Dave Sittler) HOWARD SCHNELLENBERGER and Oklahoma football seldom belong in the same sentence for Sooner fans who lived through Schnellenberger's one-year reign of error as OU's coach.

But that changed this week when OU coach Bob Stoops confirmed that he had hired Willie Martinez to fill the opening created when Chris Wilson departed to become co-defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Martinez and Schnellenberger are forever linked because of one of the greatest college games in history. OU's new secondary coach was a starting defensive back for Schnellenberger's 1983 national champion Miami (Fla.) team....read more from the Tulsa World
