Sooner Marines in Afghanistan need 'Taste of home' PDF Print E-mail

Sooners Etc just received this email from Major Mathew J. Pfeffer in Helmand Province, Afghanistan:

I’m an OU Alumni and an active duty Marine, currently serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. We’re only halfway through our year-long deployment, which means we’ll miss the entire 2010 football season. Although I found a few fellow Sooners on my camp, we’re outnumbered by Longhorns and Aggies. In Afghanistan, the Marines have limited phone and internet access, therefore the highlight of every Marine’s week is “Mail Call,” as the Marines gather around, hoping a letter or package has their name on it. Sadly, troop support from the home front has been declining. Therefore, I was hoping you would be interested in sending something as simple as autographed posters or any other memorabilia you’re willing to donate (cheerleader posters, football posters, etc). I can assure you it will be distributed to the Sooner Marines, where it will be displayed with pride, and lead to plenty of bragging. Please make out any autographs to “The Marines & Sailors of 1st Marine Division” or simply to “1st Marine Division.” Since I’m on the Division Staff, I have the ability to distribute your contributions to any of our battalions or platoons, to include the Wounded Warrior medical facility. (When Marines are wounded in combat, they are immediately MEDEVAC’d, forced to leave behind all of their personal belongings and they’re separated from their fellow Marines). Therefore, your contributions will certainly be well-received by the wounded Marines left with nothing of their own. I appreciate your support. Go Sooners! Semper Fi.
