This weekend the Sooners face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. In the 2008 season Tulsa went 11-3 including a GMAC Bowl victory over Ball St. In the 2007 season Tulsa had a 10-4 record with a GMAC Bowl win over Bowling Green. The Hurricane also defeated BYU in 2007 by a score of 55-47 before losing to OU the following week 62-21. On October 3rd OU goes up against the Miami Hurricanes who have been rebuilding until, possibly, this year. The Canes defeated Florida State on the Seminoles' home field on September 8 in a 38-34 thriller. Next, Miami took out Georgia Tech at home 33-17 on Thursday night (Sept 17). Miami's quarterback Jacory Harris passed for 270 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Earlier this week Harris suggested the Hurricanes' offense couldn't be stopped. Miami faces Virginia Tech the weekend before playing OU. To have a chance against both these teams, Miami in particular on their home field, the Sooners need to solidify their offensive line and find some receiving help. Without it, Tulsa and Miami will stack the line to shut down the running game and double-cover Ryan Broyles. The coaching staff is even considering playing freshman Jaz Reynolds. Jake Trotter at The Oklahoman writes: So far, he has yet to play. But Reynolds’ redshirt could finally get pulled this weekend against Tulsa. Crimson and Cream Machine blogger ccmachine takes an in-depth look at the situation: The answer to Oklahoma's struggles at the outside receiver position could have been under everyone's noses all along. The Daily Oklahoman brought up a great point about possibly playing Jaz Reynolds because he hasn't been moved to the scout team and is still working out with the receivers....read more The Tulsa World reports that another receiver possibility, Jameel Owens, is now on the scout team: Wide receivers coach Jay Norvell said Owens was on OU's scout team after being suspended for last week's 64-0 victory over Idaho State. Norvell said the suspension was due to "missing practice and meetings." Hurricane season starts this Saturday and lasts until the October 3rd Miami game. The Sooners are idle on September 26th.
