Sooners Etc will start posting small tidbits of info that we run acress here in the blog section from time to time, mostly stuff that can't be posted in the usual manner: Interesting forum threads, quotes and the like.

Firstly there appears to be some consternation over at the OSU Cowboys forum OrangePower.Com over the way that the OU Sooners forum SoonerFans.com handles the word 'Bedlam':

Bedlam is a Non-Existent Word on SoonerFans.com

When you try to use the word "Bedlam" on that forum it automatically changes it to OU-OSU. They won't let the word appear without altering it in someway, because they are afraid to give the rivalry significance. They want OSU to believe OSU is insignificant and that the OU-OSU games are therefore insignificant.

Just a little bit on the stupid side isn't it when all of Oklahoma and America calls it Bedlam or Bedlam Series? LINK

Might be a bit of a stretch that all of America calls it the Bedlam Series. Actually I think that the word originated many, many years ago when OU and OSU were both highly ranked in wrestling and has since been 'expanded' by the media to cover other sports regardless of records.

Over at the Florida Gator Country forum talk is on a bit higher level as they discuss possible upcoming conference realignments:

Is Texas Already Talking to SEC?????

No way this happens. First, Texas is too arrogant to cede its primacy to the southeast. Everything revolves around the Lone Star State and the boosters will insure that.

Second, instead of playing division games all within the state or in the next contiguous state, they would have to travel to Alabama and Mississippi on a regular basis. Right now, they are within 300 miles or so of every opponent. Their closest opponent in the SEC would be further than that. No way Texas gives up the ease of their current arrangement.

Third, Texas can carry a conference on their own, or in tandem with an Oklahoma. Football is big enough there, recruiting is good enough, and the money plentiful enough that they don't need to belong to a super conference. They actually would be in better shape if the Big-12 were to replace some of those other programs with TCU, Arkansas, Houston, Tulsa, and other regional teams that are usually competitive, will decrease travel expenses, and will provide Texas and OU with an even easier path to national title contention. LINK

Yup, they evidently even get out maps and start doing some measuring later on in this thread.

Here's a little blast from the past in an interesting post from the blog Forever Saturday:

Has Oklahoma's brand name been permanently ruined since the here's-some-money-for-doing-nothing scandal involving former uber-recruit QB Rhett Bomar? In hindsight, it's pretty amusing to go back and read guys like Stewart Mandel identifying the "irreparable stain" on Oklahoma football and talking about how things would fall apart without the starting QB and how the scandal would set the program back "for years to come". LINK

And last but not least CBS writer evidently took a lot of flak thanks to mentioning the death penalty fro OU Basketball in a recent article. Evidently nothing new:

I get hundreds of e-mails a week. Sometimes more than 1,000. I print maybe 20, so do the math. The odds of getting into Hate Mail aren't good.

Yet this week some dude asked me to notify him when -- when! -- his e-mail was printed. He wasn't being cheeky. He was being serious.

Before I deal with him, though, I have to deal with the Oklahoma fans who don't believe I ever lived there. LINK

Pretty feisty for a national writer, eh?
