2009 OU Football Preview: Running Backs/Fullbacks PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 July 2009 16:43

In addition to a Heisman winning quarterback, the nation’s top tight end and at least one game breaker at receiver (tight ends & receivers preview coming next) Oklahoma also returns two 1,000 yard running backs. The significance of this is that the Sooners return 100% of their rushing yards in 2009, along with every significant passing yard, to make up one of the top backfields in the country....full story from the Crimson and Cream Machine

Mossman: OU's Scheduling Tradition PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 July 2009 15:23

(by Kenny Mossman/OU Senior Associate Athletics Director for Communications) With apologies to Joe Castiglione, there are times when nearly all of us decide to play athletics director for a day.

We debate coaching moves, suggest facilities upgrades and pass judgment on halftime entertainment, all while gathered around the safety of the water cooler.

It's not long before those sessions turn to the matter of scheduling....full story from SoonerSports.com

Texas-OU rightfully ranks as the best of Forde's 2009 rivalries PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 July 2009 15:17

(by Tim Griffin) Is there really any doubt across the country what the best college football rivalry is?

ESPN.com colleague Pat Forde ranked the top national rivalries playing out this season and placed the nation's bitterest blood feud at the top.

Of course, it's Texas and Oklahoma. It's a series that has featured more bragging and whining over the years than any other....full story from ESPN

Marcus Walker ready to battle for NFL roster spot PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 July 2009 10:10

(by Brice Cherry) Marcus Walker was on the wrong end of perhaps the most exciting college football game ever played.

But neither Walker’s life nor his playing career ended that day.

Walker, the former high school All-American cornerback from Waco High and the Oklahoma Sooners, had to embody resiliency at various times in his football career. At times, he had to scratch and claw and fight.

The fact is, he still is....full story from the Waco Tribune-Herald

Did the local media unfairly pick on Schnellenberger? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 July 2009 09:57

(by Dave Sittler) A writer for the Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper, who acknowledges he's a big Howard Schnellenberger fan, has decided the media out here in the sticks unfairly picked on his boy during Schnellenberger's one disastrous season at Oklahoma.

He believes we ganged up and placed all the blame on poor Howard when OU's football program went in the crapper, while cutting John Blake a whole bunch of slack because he's an OU alum.

He also claims Schnellberger was unpopular because "he followed" Barry Swtizer at OU....full story from the Tulsa World

Where’s the strength of schedule Mack??? PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 23:02

The Longhorn 2009 schedule is a joke to say the least. I went through and did some comparisons between 2 of the powerhouses in the Big 12 being Texas and Oklahoma. I also went with Oklahoma because of the drama that came up at the end of last season for the Big 12 Championship and National Championship. Also Oklahoma is the BIGGEST game on Texas Schedule....full story from Icks Corner

Habern eager to help young OU line develop PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 21:08

(by Tim Griffin) Being in the middle of Oklahoma's biggest question mark isn't something that Ben Habern shies away from.

In fact, the Sooners' freshman center is excited about the opportunity to prove something to the doubters who are wondering about Oklahoma's young offensive line heading into the upcoming season with four new starters.

It's made Habern wish his team's Sept. 5 opener against BYU was only a couple of weeks away....full story from ESPN

Rockwall (TX) Heath center Woods orally commits to Oklahoma PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 18:33

(by Brandon George) Rockwall-Heath senior-to-be center Austin Woods said Wednesday that he has orally committed to Oklahoma, choosing the Sooners over Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Woods (6-5, 290), who is ranked No. 220 on the Rivals.com National Top 250 list for 2010, said he'll take an official visit to OU this fall but is done with recruiting. Woods' father, Don, coaches running backs and special teams for the Rockwall-Heath football team....full story from The Dallas Morning News

Stoops brothers give back to area at Camp of Champions PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 08:42

(by John Vargo) YOUNGSTOWN - Bob Stoops' gait wasn't that fast Monday. He took the time to enjoy the sights and talk to a few friends.

As he approached the Cardinal Mooney High School football practice field, it reminded him that he's a long ways from Oklahoma University.

"I love being back in the Valley seeing family and friends," said the Sooners football coach, who is heading into his 11th season in Norman, Okla. "There's nothing like it - seeing young kids coming out playing football and around Cardinal Mooney....full story from the Warren Tribune Chronicle (Warren, Ohio)

Stoops driving OU's Caravan PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 00:15

(by Jeffrey Martin) He has the look of a man who knows the secret.

There's a spring in his stride and a grin on his grill, and you'd smile and have a skip in your step, too, if the reigning Heisman Trophy winner decided to come back to your program, wouldn't you?

What about your relationship with your boss?....full story from The Wichita Eagle

TAKE TWO: An alternative look at the day in sports PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 30 June 2009 16:22

(by Dave Matter) Across the Big 12 Conference, there are few players more skilled at chasing quarterbacks than Sergio Kindle, a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end for the Texas Longhorns. Last season, Kindle’s sack victims included Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Missouri’s Chase Daniel, Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell and Kansas’ Todd Reesing (twice).

To that list Kindle can now add Ashley Zapata’s bedroom....full story from the Columbia Daily Tribune
